6on Which things in the bag get used on a full day out with an 8 month old?
First trip to ammamma's place with our elder one, we carried the full steriliser box. It came back unopened. Second trip, one flask of hot water and a small bag, and nobody suffered :) With ten people in the house, someone will have a mat. I'd leave that and the blanket.
2on Do people choose a paediatrician before the baby comes?
Hospital one checked our first baby in the ward, then we picked our own for vaccines. With the second we chose before, mostly because my amma wanted someone she could reach on a Sunday 🙂 What mattered in the end was simple: close to home, and the clinic answers the phone. The ward paediatrician you'll meet anyway.
0on 6 month old's first cup: steel tumbler, sippy or straw? Every relative has a vote
Steel tumbler for both of ours, because ammamma decided before we could 😄 No regrets. Our only rule was water, no juice, and that was the hardest one to get the elders to follow.
4on Partner is a teacher, and our boys have started resenting the evening parent messages
Same house, different city 🙂 My partner teaches senior classes and correction weeks are the worst. What worked for us: Sunday evenings fully off, no exceptions, and each kid gets one homework hour with their teacher-parent on a weekday that nobody else can book. Our son sulked exactly like yours. Now he books his slot in advance like an appointment 😄
1on New class 6 sections next year means a reshuffle, and my son has had the same friends for years
Same thing at our son's school last year, in class 5. First two weeks he came home saying 'andaru kotha vallu' every day. By Dasara he had a new gang, and the old friends at lunch. Worked out fine 🙂
2on Class 8 geometry is done on an app at her school. She can't use a compass, and I draw for a living
Son is in class 5, ICSE, and still uses a compass for everything, so at least some schools haven't moved. Before deciding, maybe check how her tests are done. If the unit test is on paper with an instrument box, she's practising on the app and getting examined by hand, which doesn't seem fair to her.
3on Daycare shut at 7.30 am because the lane was waterlogged. Does anyone's daycare give more notice?
Bengaluru is the same when it pours. Our backup is my mother, who lives twenty minutes away, but she needs an hour's notice too. 'Who decides and when' is a good thing to ask.
0on Two pregnancy books in, and they disagree on almost everything
We had the same dinner fights. Ended up with the doctor as tie-breaker for anything medical and my amma as tie-breaker for food, which created its own problems 🙂
6on She's 8 and campaigning for a baby sibling. We're done at one
This matches what I see with my two. Half the time what they want is not a sibling, it's company. Ours fight like anything and still the elder one wants his friends over every weekend 🙂 A sibling isn't a guaranteed playmate either.
1on 46 in class 4, and after a week his classwork notebook has one tick in it
Same thing happened at my son's school here in Yelahanka a couple of years back. Parents went together to the class teacher, politely, after two weeks, and asked how corrections would work. She started a fixed notebook day for each row. Only works if it's many parents and not one, kada 🙂
2on Preschool drop is back, and it lands right on my best working hour
My partner leaves early for school, so drop was mine for years. I took my first call from the car park and kept 9.30 to 11 blocked as 'focus' in the calendar every day. Nobody argues with a block that has always been there 🙂
2on Hindi or Sanskrit for class 9? He scores better in Sanskrit and enjoys Hindi more
Not CBSE in our house, but my nephew's school allowed a switch only in the first few weeks of class 9. After that they said no because of board registration. I think it varies, so best to ask the school directly.
