New class 6 sections next year means a reshuffle, and my son has had the same friends for years

quiet_kettle_9460

The circular came last week. Two new sections in class 6 from next June, which means a big batch of new joiners and, from what other parents are saying, the existing sections get reshuffled too. My son is in class 5 and has been with more or less the same group for years. He hasn't seen the circular, but he'll hear about it soon enough from someone on the bus. Has your child's school done this? Did the old students get split up, and how did the children manage the first few months? ❤️

Not something we've been through; our son is only in class 1. One question that may help: does the circular say how the reshuffle will be done? I understand some schools mix by a fixed rule, some by marks, and some let children name one or two friends they'd like to stay with. Worth asking the class teacher before the rumours on the bus settle it for you.

  • my school reshuffled us in class 6. lost my bench partner, gained the two people i still play cricket with every month. that was the early nineties, but i doubt eleven year olds have changed much

Same thing at our son's school last year, in class 5. First two weeks he came home saying 'andaru kotha vallu' every day. By Dasara he had a new gang, and the old friends at lunch. Worked out fine 🙂

our elder one went through exactly this when her school added sections at class 6. got split from her two closest friends and the first term was rough, lot of sitting alone at lunch talk at home. what helped was keeping one weekend meetup with the old friends going for a while. by class 7 she had both groups. the school didn't change the sections for anyone btw, we asked
