Do people choose a paediatrician before the baby comes?

First baby. My doctor asked at the last appointment whether we've 'decided on a paediatrician', and I realised we haven't even thought about it. Is that normally sorted during pregnancy, or does the hospital assign someone at birth? We're in KPHB.

Hospital one checked our first baby in the ward, then we picked our own for vaccines. With the second we chose before, mostly because my amma wanted someone she could reach on a Sunday 🙂 What mattered in the end was simple: close to home, and the clinic answers the phone. The ward paediatrician you'll meet anyway.

Ours was twelve years ago, so some of this will have changed. We met two before the birth, which felt excessive at the time but meant we weren't choosing on two hours of sleep. Keep the clinic near home. You'll be going a lot in the first year.
