Daycare shut at 7.30 am because the lane was waterlogged. Does anyone's daycare give more notice?

Second time this month. The message came on the parents' group at 7.30, after I'd dressed him and packed his bag. I had a client review at 10 and my partner was already on the road. Did the review from home with him on my lap and the camera off. I understand they can't open with the lane under water. What I'd like is some notice, or at least a rule we can plan around, like 'heavy rain overnight means assume closed'. Does any daycare do this? And what do you do on those mornings when neither of you can stay home?

Our preschool sends a 'likely closed' message the night before when the forecast is bad, then confirms by 6.30. You could ask yours for that. Not perfect, but it helps.

Ours tried the night-before message. Half the time it turned out fine and they opened anyway, so parents had already taken leave for nothing, and then people stopped believing it. A forecast rule sounds neat, but somebody loses a day either way.

      Replying to @umber_sparrow_120

Fair, but I'd still rather lose a planned day than get a 7.30 surprise. A planned day I can at least put in the calendar.

Schools have the same problem. A closure depends on whether staff can get in, not only the lane. That's often why the call comes so late: they're waiting to hear from the teachers. Ask the daycare what time they decide and who decides. Knowing that helped us.

Bengaluru is the same when it pours. Our backup is my mother, who lives twenty minutes away, but she needs an hour's notice too. 'Who decides and when' is a good thing to ask.

When our son was in daycare we kept a list of two people who could take him for a morning at short notice, a neighbour and our caregiver's sister, and paid them for it. Doesn't fix the policy, but it saved a few client calls.
