1on My 16 year old has started charging her brother for maths help
Passed this on. She says there's a festival surcharge till Diwali.
2on Grade 1 teacher suggested handwriting tuition. Is that normal at six?
We did it at home with our son at about the same age: ten minutes a day copying one or two lines from a book he liked, never worksheets. By class 3 it was fine. But whether a class is worth it depends on what exactly the teacher is seeing. Letter formation, spacing, speed and pencil grip are different problems. Grip is the one where I would have wanted someone trained watching him; the others we managed ourselves.
0on nephew has a football match at AECS DAE colony on saturday. can family go in to watch
Having sat through a lot of my son's inter-school matches: the time on the schedule is a suggestion. Ours have started anywhere from on time to an hour late. Take something to read, and a folding stool if you have one.
0on Class 12 son asked if he could see the school counsellor. I said yes, then quietly panicked
Him asking you first is the good part. The harder bit is that you probably won't hear what they talk about, and you'll have to be fine with that. I'd tell him once that you're around if he wants to talk, and then not ask again for a while.
0on 11 year old wants to grow his hair long. The school wants it above the collar
Our son tried this last year. We let him, the notes kept coming, and in the end he cut it himself before the class photo. I think it mattered to him that the decision was his, not ours. The cost was two months of me writing apologies in the diary.
1on 13 year old says she concentrates best after 10 pm. Do I believe her?
My elder one had the same routine in class 8. The deal we struck: two late nights a week, lights out by 10.30 on the rest. It held for most of a term, which by our standards was a success. The catch was that the late nights drifted to the nights before tests, which was the opposite of what we wanted.
4on Two months of practice for his dance class show, and he watched the whole thing from my lap
My daughter did exactly this at her first school annual day, at about the same age. Stood at the edge of the stage holding the teacher's hand and didn't move. The next year she was fine, and by ten she was asking for solo parts. What I think helped was that nobody brought it up afterwards, except to say we'd enjoyed watching her friends. If he's happy, I'd let it stay his story and not ask him about the next show yet.
1on Where do people around Tolichowki buy baking tins and decent cocoa without going to a mall?
Begum Bazaar does have shops that sell baking things in bulk; I've bought kitchen supplies there for years. Parking is the problem, not the shops. Go early on a weekday and take a list, because most things come in larger quantities than a home baker needs.
0on Gyan Bharthi High School in Himayatnagar. can a child join in LKG or only from nursery?
Walking distance at 4 is worth a lot. We chose the bigger school with the bus for our son and a closer one for our daughter, and her mornings are completely different. The trade-off is two school calendars, two sets of holidays and every event on a different day, which I underestimated.
6on Homework in the early classes at St Isaac Advent, Borabanda? Thinking ahead for our son
Mine are both CBSE, a son finishing primary and a daughter in high school. For us the homework difference between schools didn't show up in class 1 at all. It showed up around class 4, when some schools started projects every other week. Worth asking about the middle years too, not only class 1, since he'd be there for a while.
