Homework in the early classes at St Isaac Advent, Borabanda? Thinking ahead for our son

breezy_fern_1867

Our son is in LKG now and we're starting to look at class 1 options for next year, a little early. Our daughter has just finished her class 10 boards, CBSE all the way, and watching her last two years has made me want something less heavy for him in the early classes. St Isaac Advent in Borabanda keeps coming up as a State Board option that isn't too far from Hafeezpet. What I'd like to know is what a normal week of homework looks like in class 1 or 2, how much is written work, and whether parents are expected to sit with it every evening. Plain details from current parents, or from anyone who visited this year, would help a lot.

When you visit, ask whether you can flip through a class 1 notebook from this year. One notebook from March tells you more about homework than anything the office says.

Mine are both CBSE, a son finishing primary and a daughter in high school. For us the homework difference between schools didn't show up in class 1 at all. It showed up around class 4, when some schools started projects every other week. Worth asking about the middle years too, not only class 1, since he'd be there for a while.

You're right about the middle years. I've been thinking only of the first two classes, but the switch I'd want to avoid is moving him again at nine. I'll ask about class 4 and 5 as well.

I haven't any first-hand knowledge of this school, so only a point on process. When we looked at primary sections for our son, the most reliable answers came from asking the class teacher, if they let you meet one, what a typical Tuesday's homework was. Specific day, specific subject. General questions got general answers.

Can't speak for the school itself. On the distance though: please do the drive at 8 in the morning on a weekday before you decide. Hafeezpet to Borabanda looks short on the map. Some mornings it is short and some it isn't, and a six year old notices.

the homework you see in april and the homework in september are two different animals. if you can, ask a parent there about the week before the first unit test.

Noted. If I can find a parent there, I'll ask about exactly that week rather than 'is it okay'.

the girls' cousins are state board. less homework than ours till about class 5, then it catches up fast. that's all i know, not this school.
