Two months of practice for his dance class show, and he watched the whole thing from my lap

He knew every step. He'd been doing them in the living room for weeks, for his thatha, for the watchman, for anyone who stood still long enough. On the day, they called his group, he looked at the stage lights, climbed into my lap and stayed there. Clapped for every other child very sincerely. He isn't upset at all. I'm the one who keeps replaying it. The teacher was kind and said it happens a lot with four year olds. Did yours freeze at their first performance, and did the next one go any differently? I don't want to turn it into a thing ❤️

My daughter did exactly this at her first school annual day, at about the same age. Stood at the edge of the stage holding the teacher's hand and didn't move. The next year she was fine, and by ten she was asking for solo parts. What I think helped was that nobody brought it up afterwards, except to say we'd enjoyed watching her friends. If he's happy, I'd let it stay his story and not ask him about the next show yet.

Is it the stage or the lights? Worth knowing before the next one. Mine was fine on stage at morning assembly and froze every time there were spotlights and a dark hall. We practised once in a dark room with a torch pointed at her. Sounds silly. It helped.
