This happens more than parents think. From the teacher side, a lot of them don't ask because they don't want to miss whatever is going on, or they don't want to put a hand up and say it in front of everyone. A couple of kids in my class have a card they just leave on my desk and go. No announcement. Could ask his teacher whether something like that is possible.

We watched this play out with my nephew last year. His parents took him to the family doctor with the tin, and the doctor said food first and gave them a list. He tried for a month before giving up and buying one anyway 😅 I'd still start with the doctor visit. At least it moves the decision from 'the trainer said' to someone you trust.

Ha, same ceremony here, at 5. Though I'd say a cot is much easier at 8 months than at 3 years, when they can climb out and argue with you about it.

Mine's a teenager now and I still remember standing over the cot at 3 am watching her breathe 😄 Ask at the next vaccine visit. Your own doctor saying it will settle you more than any of us can.

Cleaning is exactly the test! A girl in my daughter's class signed up for weekend shelter duty last year, very excited. Lasted three Sundays haha. The ones who stayed on were the ones who didn't mind the mess.

Sort the backup question before the travel one. Who takes your daughter if you have to go in at 3 am? Once that person exists, the travel cut-off can be later. With my one there was no older child to think about, so I'm no use on that part 😄

Love this. My only question would be what happens when a phone comes back worse than it went in. Does he have a plan for that, like no charge if it doesn't work? Neighbours are lovely until their phone dies. Maybe help him write two lines of 'terms' on a card. He'll feel very professional.

My daughter learnt this year, mostly because her friend could type faster than her in their group chat 😂 Competition did what the app couldn't. If she has a friend who'll do the app with her, try that.

Not IT, but schools do a version of this too, a notice period with a penalty if you leave mid-year. Most teachers I know signed without a second thought and it was fine. The ones who had trouble were the ones who never kept a copy of what they signed 😅 Make sure she has her own copy, signed by both sides.

Not from my own child, mine is still in school. But two of our alumni went this way and came back to talk to the seniors last year. One did a BA in economics and then a master's, and now works in research for a bank. The other went into data work straight after the degree because she had kept maths. Both said the same thing: keep maths in 11 and 12, it opens far more courses. The relatives' question won't stop either way 😄

We did this last year with a two-week trial. Rules were: message when you're in, door locked, no friends over without telling me first. She broke the third one in the first week, of course 😄 The surprise was how much she liked having the house to herself. She did more homework in those two hours than in the whole evening.

At nursery the board barely shows up in the classroom. It's mostly the school's own rhymes, play and early letters. Where it starts to matter is the reading and writing pace around UKG and class 1. If they let you watch a nursery class in session, do that. You'll learn more in twenty minutes than from the prospectus.
