5 month old rolls onto her tummy in her sleep and now I don't sleep

teal_wave_9533

Our papa learnt to roll last week. Now every time I check on her at night she's face down, and I end up turning her back, she wakes, we start again. I'm on call this week so I'm up anyway, but my partner is exhausted. Do you turn them back or leave them? What did your doctor say?

ours started doing this around the same age. our paediatrician said once she rolls both ways on her own, let her be, just keep the cot completely bare. didn't stop me checking for weeks

Mine's a teenager now and I still remember standing over the cot at 3 am watching her breathe 😄 Ask at the next vaccine visit. Your own doctor saying it will settle you more than any of us can.

Both of mine did the rolling thing, many years ago now. What helped me more than any advice was moving the cot right up against our bed, so checking didn't mean getting up.

We tried the cot next to the bed with our 7 month old and ended up waking him every time one of us turned over. Moved it back across the room. Is it better with the kind that attaches to the side of the bed?

i used to keep a hand on his back for a second just to feel him breathing. nobody tells you how long that habit stays with you. he's taller than me now. i still pause at his door some nights

We went through this with our daughter. What we settled on was a video monitor. It meant less getting up, but I ended up watching the screen instead of sleeping, so after a month I moved it off my bedside table. I don't think there's a version of this stage where you sleep well.
