Telugu medium till class 2, now trying for English medium at Chaitanya Vidya Niketan

Asking for one of the didis who helps in my classroom. She lives in Chintal and isn't on apps like this. Her son has studied in a Telugu-medium school up to class 2 and she wants to move him to Chaitanya Vidya Niketan High School for class 3 next year. She's very keen, the boy is bright, but his English reading is basic. Do children who join from Telugu medium get any extra support with English there, or are they expected to catch up on their own? And is there anything she should ask when she goes to the office? I'll go along if it helps. I teach small children myself, but at an international school, so I really don't know how admissions work at a school like this.

Is she looking at the State Board side or CBSE? I'd think that changes how much English the boy is dealing with in class 3.

our helper's daughter made the same switch in class 2, different school. first six months were rough. she picked up most of her english from classmates, not from any extra class. at the office i'd ask how many kids in that section came in from telugu medium. tells you a lot

One thing worth thinking about before the visit: he will probably cope with maths quite quickly, it's the subjects with long English text, EVS and later science, where the gap shows. Some families in this position choose to have the child repeat class 2 in the new school so he isn't catching up on language and content at the same time. Others go straight to class 3 and accept a hard first year. Neither choice is wrong as far as I can see, but it helps if the mother has decided which one she's comfortable with before the school asks.
