2on Applying to her brother's school for class 3 when nobody can say if there's a seat
Called the office again this afternoon. They said vacancies in the middle classes are only known after the current year's results and any TCs, so not before March or April. There's an interaction in January for anyone who applies. So we'd be applying without knowing whether there's a seat at all.
1on Applying to her brother's school for class 3 when nobody can say if there's a seat
I did ask when I called last week. The answer was "subject to vacancy", which tells me nothing. Is it normal for a school not to say how many seats it expects?
2on baby proofing a rented flat at 8 months. what did you actually need
The kitchen gate is the one I would keep too. Ours was a pressure-fit one, so no drilling, which matters in a rented place. We also tied up the curtain cords. That was the thing we only noticed once she was standing.
4on Two boys a year apart, and every rakhi gets counted
Ours are six years apart so it shows up differently, but for anything that can be divided we use one cuts, the other chooses. It ends most of the arguments before they start. The things that can't be divided, like who holds the thali, we just take turns by date. Odd days and even days. Boring, but nobody can argue with the calendar.
2on Class 1 has a star chart for good behaviour. My son hasn't had a star in two weeks
Before speaking to the teacher, I would find out what he thinks a star is given for. Our daughter believed for a whole term that stars went to the quietest children, so she had stopped trying, because she knew she could not win that one. The real criteria were broader. Children often build their own explanation.
6on My 2 year old now says 'bye nanna, go' before I've even got my shoes on
Does he do the same with your partner, or only with you? With our daughter the cheerful goodbye was for whoever left more often. The rarer leaver still got tears.
1on Class 11 has no uniform, and my partner says mornings now include a wardrobe meeting
Our son's school moved its senior wing out of uniform a couple of years ago. From what other parents said, the first month was full of outfit-building and then it went back to the same four things on rotation. The expense was mostly in the first few weeks.
0on Our lane is the drop-off point for St Anthony Middle School. When does the morning rush start?
Did you find out? I'd also ask the neighbours who've lived on the lane longest. They'll know whether the problem is the morning drop or the afternoon pickup, which in my experience is the worse of the two.
1on Relatives bring their children to me at family functions to be 'checked'
My partner is a senior teacher and gets the same thing. Her standard answer now is "I'd need to see him in a classroom, not at a wedding. Call me next week and I'll tell you who to see." Most people never call, which tells you something too. The ones who do call are the ones who were genuinely worried.
2on What do people mean when they call Ryan International, Kondapur a good school for the small classes?
That is fair. The drive is the part I keep postponing. Did you do a long school run yourself at some point?
1on One month old takes the bottle from me only if her amma is out of the room
Three days on, is the balcony still needed? With our son the trick stopped working at about two months and he started refusing the bottle from everyone, which was worse. We kept one bottle a day going after that even when it wasn't strictly needed, just so he wouldn't forget how. If there's any chance you'll need bottles later in the year, that one evening feed is worth protecting.
0on She's now the last drop on the school bus. Seventy-five minutes home in this heat
Our son was the last drop for a whole year once. A frozen water bottle wrapped in a cloth and a small snack for the bus helped a bit. For June, if the three families write together instead of separately, the transport people tend to take it more seriously.
