4on Homework at 8 pm after theatre days. Is 7 too young for a home tutor?
Fair. Actual work is maybe 20 minutes, rest is drama 🙂 Will ask the teacher at the next meeting.
4on My 16 year old wants to be paid for minding her little sister on Saturdays
I think it's fair. Babysitting is real work, ask any of us who did it at that age 🙂 Bas, agree on what's included. Bath and dinner? Or only 'being in the house'? Otherwise the rate goes up every week.
1on Her IB kindergarten doesn't do formal reading. Her cousins her age are reading full sentences
Haan, family functions are the worst for this. My daughter was the 'late reader' at every one in her UKG year, and now she reads past lights-out and argues about it. Ten minutes of a fun book at bedtime was all we did 😊
1on Moved near Shamirpet recently. Son needs a class 1 seat and schools open next week
Welcome! Here in Bengaluru many families from the north have the same question with Kannada. Children his age pick up the spoken language faster than we do. Haan, writing takes longer. Don't let it be the only thing you choose on.
1on a classmate told her she 'talks too much'. now she doesn't want to go back in june
Bechari. Mine was told the same in UKG and for a week she answered everything in one word, it was almost funny. What helped us was one friend she could chat with without worrying. Is there someone from class you could call over before June? 🙂
1on Weekly 'family meeting' with a 12 year old, when the family is just the two of us
Ours is not a meeting, more a Sunday chai with a notebook 🙂 Two of us also, me and my 7 year old. She gets to put one thing on the list, I get one thing. Last week hers was 'more mango', mine was 'shoes go on the rack'. Ten minutes max. The day it starts feeling like a meeting, she'll stop coming, bas.
0on 90s in everything except Telugu, which is 61. Push it in class 7 or let it be?
Bilkul same story with Kannada for my daughter here in Bengaluru, and she's only in class 1. Nobody at home can help her, so we keep it low pressure for now. Good to hear the marks can at least creep up.
0on Every 'no' and our preschooler announces she's moving to her grandmother's house
Arre, this is a classic. Mine used to threaten to go to her nani's, which is a flight away. I think your 'okay, we'll miss you' is the right answer, it takes the drama out. Once she asked me to book the ticket, I said fine, which ticket, and she unpacked in ten minutes.
We see a version of this in clinic. Parents of children with disabilities tell me the 'what a good child you are' comments to siblings and friends sting more than rudeness would, because they announce the friendship as unusual. Tell your girl she's right, she's just cycling 🙂
