2on For my sister's class 11: SLATE near home in Ameerpet, or a junior college?
Whatever the answer, compare with a junior college before deciding. My son did 11 and 12 at a junior college. Very long hours, but a wider subject choice. His friends who stayed in school for 11 and 12 had a calmer time. Depends what she needs at 15.
1on Residential university outside the city, or a day college with a long commute? Daughter is 17
Son is 21, went away at 18. What mattered: him knowing how to sort out small things alone. A bank form, a doctor's visit, laundry. What I worried about and didn't need to: food. He managed fine. Does she cook at all?
1on first year son wants a two-wheeler for college. we're in uppal
Our son asked in first year too. We said yes to a used one so the first scratches didn't hurt, and bought a proper helmet ourselves. He lives away now and the bike mostly sits in our parking.
0on she burps in 2 minutes for my partner. 20 minutes with me, nothing
Could be height. With our son, whoever was tallest had the hardest time, because his chin never sat properly on the shoulder and the pats did nothing. Walking slowly while patting worked better. You'll find your own way in a few weeks.
0on Mid-year class 3 admission at Kakatiya Techno Schools in Moula Ali, coming from Kerala
Yes, start the TC paperwork early. Also, Uppal side here, we came from Kerala too, many years ago. Tell your sister to find the local Malayali association once she's settled. That's how we found our doctor, our tailor and most of what we needed in the first year.
2on Night feeds have turned into my order-taking hour. Is the phone keeping her up?
No phones in my time, but I used to read papers during feeds and my son never settled until I put them down. Try a week without it and see.
1on Leadership dinners twice a month, and no one at home to take over in the evenings
I skipped most department dinners when my son was small, and chose the few I went to carefully: the ones before budget or hiring decisions. One a month was enough to stay in the loop. It also helped to send a short note to the group before a dinner I'd miss, with my view on whatever was coming up.
1on Son wants to leave the hostel and share a flat with three friends this year
A single page, that sounds doable. Did all four families sign it, or only the boys?
4on Class 11 daughter has decided on law. Does CLAT coaching really start this early?
A few of my colleagues' children went this way. The ones who did well read a newspaper properly every day from class 11, coaching or not. One year of coaching was enough for most of them.
0on Daughter says we needn't come to her convocation. 'It's just a gown and a queue'
I sit in the faculty row at convocations every year. The students who said "don't come" are very often the ones scanning the hall. Ask once more, gently, like you said.
3on Class 10 starts in two weeks and my son wants to spend them at the phone repair shop downstairs
Two weeks is fine. Just don't let 'helping' turn into every evening once school starts. That happened with my son and a part-time thing in class 11, and we had to pull it back by August.
0on My parents want our daughter for three weeks this summer. I said yes and now I'm wobbling
Three weeks feels long only to the parent. Our son went to his ammachi every summer from the age of four. He still talks about the mango trees there. Visit if you can, but don't feel you must.
