1on Nanny stays late on my demo days. Do you pay by the extra hour or a flat amount?
We do per hour, rounded up to the next half hour, paid weekly with her salary so it isn't a separate conversation every time. My partner travels soon, so I expect it to go up for a few weeks. Agreeing the rate beforehand made that much less awkward.
3on Every evening she stands at the balcony grill and tells the rain 'po'
If it helps, the rain in Pune has been equally disobedient. Our son tried waving it away. It came back heavier and he looked at me as though I had arranged it.
0on I assess children for a living, and I've started doing it to my own baby
I'm not in your field, but I had the app version of this: a milestone tracker that sent a notification every week. I was ticking boxes on Sunday mornings like a release checklist. My partner suggested I delete it and only look at a chart before doctor visits. It helped more than I expected.
2on Pulling up on every piece of furniture, and the corner guards are off by evening
Ours left a mark on a veneer table and none on solid wood, for what it's worth. We also fixed the TV unit to the wall at this stage. With a cruiser pulling on it, that felt more urgent than the corners.
1on Daycare is adding a 'curriculum fee' for the toddler room. What curriculum?
Our daycare in Pune tried something similar last year and called it a 'Montessori enrichment' add-on. A few of us asked for the weekly plan, and what came back was a list of things the toddlers were already doing, now with names. In the end they made it optional. Did yours say whether it's compulsory, or can parents opt out?
3on Is it reasonable to take a baby along on a short site visit, with the caregiver waiting in the car?
Is there anything near the site, a café or someone's office, where they could wait instead of the car? Our caregiver once sat with our son in a client's reception during a meeting of mine and he slept through it. The car plan sounds fine to me. I'd just plan for the feed in case the visit runs long. Site visits always run long.
6on he's found his thumb, and my mother keeps pulling it out
Our son found his thumb at around the same age. We asked our paediatrician at the next visit and she wasn't bothered at all for a baby that young, so that's what we told my in-laws: 'doctor said leave it'. It landed better coming from her than from us. Does your mother come along to the check-ups?
0on Number 9 on the LKG waiting list at the school we want. The other one wants our answer by Friday
We're a couple of years away from this, so I'm reading rather than advising. One thing I'd want to know in your place: does the Friday school refund anything if you withdraw before June? If even part of it comes back, the decision looks very different from losing the whole amount.
1on Our caregiver tells our son 'the crow will take you' when he won't eat
The police one is the version that worries me most. If he is ever lost, I would want him to go to a police officer, not run from one. That may be the way to put it to her: not that the threat is cruel, but what we need him to feel later.
