Number 9 on the LKG waiting list at the school we want. The other one wants our answer by Friday

jade_wave_3086

Applied to three schools for LKG. The one we like least has given us a seat and wants payment by Friday or it goes to the next family. The one we really want has us at number 9 on its waiting list and says the list 'usually moves by end of April'. Paying and possibly losing the money hurts. Walking away and ending up with nothing hurts more. What would you do? 🤷

call the first-choice school and ask how far their list moved last year. number 9 means something very different at a school with three LKG sections than at one with a single section.

We're a couple of years away from this, so I'm reading rather than advising. One thing I'd want to know in your place: does the Friday school refund anything if you withdraw before June? If even part of it comes back, the decision looks very different from losing the whole amount.

That's the right question. From the school side, refund terms are usually in the admission letter or the fee circular, and most parents don't read them until it's too late. Ask for them in writing. Also, a polite 'we're waiting on one more school, could you hold the seat till Monday' is asked more often than you'd think, and sometimes the answer is yes ❤️

Bit late to this, but I hope it worked out. A friend here in Bengaluru paid the first school and got her first choice two days later. She says she'd still do it the same way, because not sleeping for two days to save the fee wasn't worth it. We'll be in your shoes in a couple of years and I'm dreading it 😅
