he's found his thumb, and my mother keeps pulling it out

teal_violin_2056

four months and he's worked out how to get his thumb into his mouth. he settles himself with it, which feels like a small gift after the last few weeks. my mother takes it out every time she sees it and says his teeth will come in crooked. i don't think i want to stop him yet. i just don't know how to say that to her every hour.

Our son found his thumb at around the same age. We asked our paediatrician at the next visit and she wasn't bothered at all for a baby that young, so that's what we told my in-laws: 'doctor said leave it'. It landed better coming from her than from us. Does your mother come along to the check-ups?

'Doctor said' is the only sentence that has ever won an argument with my mother. Use it freely.
