0on School worksheet asked what her father does in the morning. My 9 year old wrote "He leaves."
The PTM follow-up is the part I hadn't thought of. Ours is next month and now I'm wondering what else has gone on paper this term.
2on Do non-defence families apply to Army Public School, Golconda?
Getting it in writing matters. When we looked at a school with category-based admissions for our daughter, the person at the counter told us one thing and the printed notice said another. The notice was what counted in the end.
2on My 8 year old wants to draw like me. Art class, or just sketch together on weekends?
That's the question I keep coming back to as well. My daughter wanted lessons in exactly the instrument I play, and it took me a while to see she mostly wanted the evening with me. We do both now, the class and a Sunday session at home that has no 'lesson' in it.
6on Any weekend nature walk or trek groups near Yelahanka that take a 10 and a 5 year old?
I'm in Hyderabad so I can't name a group there, but we did two family walks with an organised group here when our daughter was six. What I'd check: how many adults per group, whether there's a turnaround point for small legs, and what they do if it rains. The second group had no plan for that, and we walked back in a downpour with a crying child.
1on I answer six-year-olds' questions all day and come home with none left for my own 3 year old
After a theatre list I'm the same, minus the six-year-olds. What helped me was a fifteen-minute buffer: I sit in the car outside the gate or walk round the block before going in. It sounds silly, but the first ten minutes at home were where I was at my worst.
3on Would Kakatiya Techno School in Chandrayangutta test an ICSE boy joining class 3?
When we looked at a couple of schools for our daughter last year, one of them did a short reading passage and a page of sums with a teacher sitting beside her. It seemed more about seeing where she was than filtering anyone out. I'd still ask the office directly what they do for class 3, because it varies even between branches with the same name.
2on Class 6 seating is boy-girl this year and my son is treating it like a punishment
From the other side: my daughter came home last year upset that she'd been seated next to a boy who clicks his pen through every test. So the girls don't love it either. I'd leave it. The teacher has a reason, and he'll stop noticing in a month.
1on Summer reading list for grade 1. She can't read most of it yet
Writing this before an early list, so briefly: we read our daughter's list aloud at that age, a chapter a night. She read the same books on her own a year later and was very proud of herself.
3on Cool breakfasts for a 2 year old who now pushes away anything warm
Our daughter went through the same phase. Two things worked: small uttapams made the night before and eaten at room temperature, and sprouts with lots of lemon and a little salt. We also moved her breakfast later, to when she was properly hungry, instead of before we left.
1on we gave our son my partner's surname. my parents still bring it up on every call
Our daughter has both our surnames, and my parents took about two years to stop commenting. What helped was not defending it on every call. I started saying 'it's done' and changing the subject, every single time. Boring, but they got bored first. School friends, for the record, have never once asked.
