Summer reading list for grade 1. She can't read most of it yet

moss_sketch_9435

School sent 10 books 'to enjoy over the break'. She's 5. She can read maybe half the words in the easiest one. So is the list for me to read to her? Or is she supposed to be reading these herself by now and we're behind? Break ends in ten days.

In my son's grade 1 the list was meant for reading together, and the teacher said so at the first meeting. I'd assume this one is too. Nobody expects a 5 year old to get through those alone.

My baby is only few months and already my in-laws are buying alphabet books. I am reading this for later.

read them to her. if she guesses the next word from the pictures, that counts as reading at 5. we were told the same with our elder one and he turned out fine. mostly

Ten books in a break is a lot even as read-alouds. Pick the ones she likes and read those three times rather than all ten once. Then ask her teacher in the first week. ❤️

Writing this before an early list, so briefly: we read our daughter's list aloud at that age, a chapter a night. She read the same books on her own a year later and was very proud of herself.

Does the school want a reading log handed in? If not, I wouldn't worry about finishing it.

our older one got a similar list in grade 1. we read maybe four of them. nobody asked about it once school started 🤷
