Class 6 seating is boy-girl this year and my son is treating it like a punishment

sage_fern_563

New class teacher has put them in boy-girl pairs for the whole term. He reported this at dinner as if he'd been sentenced. He says the girl next to him is 'fine' but he can't talk to his friends anymore, which I suspect is the teacher's whole point. Is this common in class 6? Do I say anything, or let him sulk till he gets used to it?

Our son's class had this last year. The first two weeks were all complaints at dinner. Then one day he mentioned that his partner was the only one who laughed at his jokes, and the complaints stopped. I never found out if they're friends now or just a good audience for each other.

From the other side: my daughter came home last year upset that she'd been seated next to a boy who clicks his pen through every test. So the girls don't love it either. I'd leave it. The teacher has a reason, and he'll stop noticing in a month.

The pen-clicking boy made me laugh. Told him at breakfast and he said at least his partner doesn't click. Progress.

This is the old method only. In our time also schools did it, boy girl boy girl, so nobody is chatting. My son is in inter now at a residential college and there boys and girls are on separate floors, so no such issue. Let him sit where the teacher says. Class 6 is when they should start focusing anyway.
