At my granddaughter's school, she's 6, the class teacher sits with them for the first 10 minutes and they eat, then they go out. Her mother asked about it at the first PTM. So some schools do keep a fixed time. Worth asking before you commit to rolls for the next eight years 🤷

Our granddaughter did exactly this around then. Her parents put it down to the standing. She'd pull up in the cot half asleep and then not know how to get down. Lasted maybe three weeks. They practised sitting down from standing in the daytime, not sure if that helped or time did.

From the grandparent end of the phone: we notice, and we don't really mind. When my own son went through it years ago, he switched to sending voice notes instead of calling, because he could delete and redo them until he was happy. Doesn't suit every boy, but it kept him in touch through the worst of it. Maybe just tell the aunt quietly. She'll remember being that age, or her own sons.

Wouldn't want to guess on this one, such schools can have very specific rules. Ask the office for their admission categories in writing, or a printed notice if they have one. Then you know exactly where you stand 🤷

When my son's family went through nursery forms for my granddaughter a couple of years ago, two schools opened and closed within the same week. Put a reminder in your calendar for early October and check every fortnight after that.

'Exit points' is a useful way of putting it. My son thinks the same way. My daughter-in-law likes what she has read about IB in the early years, so we may get two different answers on the drive home. My granddaughter's preschool asked for nothing like this. Her parents paid at admission, a couple of months before she started. I would look at a few more places before deciding.

Check what the receipt calls it. For my granddaughter's UKG her parents paid an 'admission fee' and a 'caution deposit'. The first one never comes back. The second one does, mostly.

From the grandparent side: we had our granddaughter for two weeks last summer. The first two nights she asked for her mother at bedtime, after that she was running the house. Video calls at the same time every evening helped more than anything. Let your parents have her. They'll be tired and very happy.

Morning slot is a good idea. We moved my granddaughter's swimming to 8 am in summer for the same reason. Ask the centre whether another family would swap. Some working parents prefer the late afternoon.
