Son says his class 8 unit test 'doesn't count'. Is that how it works in ICSE schools?

0on 7 year old reads comics in bed for an hour, but calls her school library book 'for babies'
It would help to separate what the school requires from what you are assuming. Is the level fixed for the term, or is it simply the last one she was assessed at? And is the log meant only for the levelled book, or for anything she reads? Some teachers are flexible about both and simply haven't been asked.
3on Work shadowing for a 16 year old, or another certificate course?
Did the counsellor say whether the fee is refundable if her interest changes midway? At 16 that is quite likely, and two years is a long commitment. I'm asking from our experience with a coaching package, not a counselling one, so it may work differently.
3on Do you go around collecting your toddler's toys back from the bigger kids?
I would separate your discomfort from his. At one, he may simply be interested in watching the older children rather than upset about the cars. When mine were that small we took one or two things down and accepted they would be shared. Collecting your things at the end is ordinary, and nobody reasonable minds it.
1on Two children joining together at The Future Kid's School? Weighing it if we rent on that side
No experience of this particular school, only of ICSE in general. In my son's class, the children who came from CBSE in class 5 or 6 found grammar and literature the hardest. Science and maths content was close to what they had done before. If the school shares a sample paper, it gives a fair picture of the gap.
1on School wants me to set the half-yearly paper from home. Baby is 2 months
Is this something that was agreed in your leave terms, or a favour being asked? Those are very different conversations, and the answer to the first is usually written down somewhere.
0on Passport for a 4 month old. What did the appointment need?
Ours were done many years ago, so the rules may well have changed; please treat this as experience, not guidance. Both of us went, with our own passports. The photo was taken at the counter and the staff were clearly used to babies, they laid our son on a white sheet. The longest part was the waiting, not the counter itself. Go just after a feed and a nap if you can time it.
1on Physics teacher cuts marks when she explains a definition in her own words
My son is in an ICSE school too, a year behind your daughter. From what his teachers have told parents, the marks for a definition usually depend on certain key words being present rather than the whole sentence matching. Is that what happened here, or was her answer missing a key term? It may be worth asking the teacher which words were expected; that is a smaller thing to learn than the full wording.
All I have is my nephew's experience at a different university, so please treat this as one example. He was told that condonation applied only to a small shortfall and needed supporting documents; it was not automatic. I would ask your son to get the rule from the college handbook or the exam cell himself, in writing, rather than from other committee members.
0on Release testing keeps running past 9, someone has to sign off, and it's usually me
Different field, same shape of problem. Theatre lists overrun and someone has to close. In our unit, the person with a fixed commitment hands over at a set time, and that is written on the list in the morning, not negotiated at 7 pm. Once it was written down in advance, nobody argued. I would separate two questions: whether sign-off needs to be you, and whether the late finish is occasional or chronic. If it is chronic, that is a staffing conversation for someone above the dev leads.
0on Has anyone looked at Pristine Public School in Kachiguda for the primary classes?
I don't know this school well enough to comment on it, but I have driven through Kachiguda at school hours many times. If you do rent nearby, a short walk or a quick auto ride would be ideal, because the roads around the station get very congested in the mornings. I would visit at dismissal time before deciding.
4on Does Hyderabad Public School take children above nursery, or is entry mostly at the bottom?
We considered it for our son some years ago and didn't apply in the end, so this is limited. What I remember from asking around then is that nobody could give us a clear answer about the higher classes, and we stopped there. I'd ask the office directly whether class 3 had any openings in the last two years, rather than rely on what other parents assume, including me.
0on Class 3 comprehension, and she answers from her imagination instead of the passage
I'd separate two things first: whether she can't locate the answer, or whether she locates it and prefers her own. From what you describe it's the second, which is the easier one. When my daughter was that age we asked her to underline the sentence that answered the question before writing anything. If she couldn't underline it, it wasn't the answer.
1on Class 8 orientation next week. Son says parents 'don't go to those anymore'
The circular says 'parents of class 8 students'. His reading is that it means parents who haven't been told by their son.
0on I made a class 10 study plan for my daughter. She has asked me to delete it
Did she say what she objects to? It might be the targets, the level of detail, or simply that you made it. Those need different responses. My son is 13, so I am reasoning rather than speaking from experience, but when he refused my revision plan last year it turned out the weekly targets felt like being marked at home.
1on Power goes off at night twice a week now, and our toddler wakes the moment the fan stops
When mine were small we found it was the sudden silence as much as the heat that woke them. A white noise app on a phone, running all night at low volume, meant the fan stopping was less of a change. I can't say how much was the noise and how much was them simply growing out of it.
1on Hindi or Telugu from class 6? Our son reads Hindi better, and his grandparents are not pleased
One thing to ask the school before deciding: is the choice fixed until class 10, or is there a window to switch at class 8? Some schools lock it once chosen, others don't, and that changes how much weight to put on it now. We're Bengali at home, so neither language came from home for ours, which made the decision easier.
