We may travel early next year and want to get our son's passport done before the festival season makes appointments harder to get. I've read the official checklist. What I can't tell from it is the practical side: did both parents have to be there, how did the photo go with a baby who won't hold still, and how long did the whole visit take? We already have the birth certificate.
Ours were done many years ago, so the rules may well have changed; please treat this as experience, not guidance. Both of us went, with our own passports. The photo was taken at the counter and the staff were clearly used to babies, they laid our son on a white sheet. The longest part was the waiting, not the counter itself. Go just after a feed and a nap if you can time it.
