My daughter will happily read cat comics under the blanket till she's caught. Every Monday the school sends home a levelled reader that the teacher picks, plus a log where she writes the title and two sentences. This term's books are a level she finished months ago, and she has decided they're 'for babies'. By the time I'm home from the evening clinic, she and the caregiver have usually had a standoff over it 🙂 I don't mind that she prefers comics. I mind that reading is turning into a fight over a book she finds boring. Not sure whether to ask the teacher about the level, or the log, or just

It would help to separate what the school requires from what you are assuming. Is the level fixed for the term, or is it simply the last one she was assessed at? And is the log meant only for the levelled book, or for anything she reads? Some teachers are flexible about both and simply haven't been asked.

Let her read it out to the caregiver like she's the teacher. Baby book becomes her lesson plan. Took the fight out of it for my elder one 😂

asked our 7 year old's teacher about the levelled books. she'd been put on a level at the start of term and nobody had rechecked. moved up two the next week. three evenings without an argument so far, which is a record here
