Son says his class 8 unit test 'doesn't count'. Is that how it works in ICSE schools?

My son has his first unit test of the year next week and has informed me that it 'doesn't count', so he isn't revising. According to him only the half-yearly and the annual exams go into the report. I'd rather not argue on the basis of what I assume. The school handbook says 'continuous assessment', which could mean almost anything. In your children's schools, do class 8 unit tests feed into the final result, or are they practice? I'll ask the class teacher at the PTM, but that is a month away.

may not apply since we're cbse, but in my son's school the unit tests were 'just practice' right up until they showed up as a column on the report card. and even if they really don't count, the teacher remembers who walked in unprepared

My son is in 5th, state board. In his school unit test marks are added for final, teacher told this in first meeting itself. Every school is different I think. You can write one line in the diary and ask the teacher, no need to wait one month for PTM.

Even if it doesn't count, he'll see his marks next to everyone else's. At 13 that usually does the job. Our son is a bit younger, but that's how his first one went.
