I teach languages all day. Our 2 month old says 'aaghoo' and I reply in full paragraphs

She started cooing this week and I've become that dad. She says 'aaghoo', I say 'Oh really? And then what happened?' My partner says I'm doing comprehension questions with an infant. Ammamma on the video call just says 'aaghoo' back, and somehow gets a bigger smile than me 🙂

the narrating never stops btw. 6 years in and I still give her a full commentary at the vegetable shop 🤷

Lovely. Our son had a sound like that, and his grandfather answered him in Kannada every single time. They had long talks, the two of them. Enjoy it ❤️

Ammamma is right though 😂 They love being copied. Our youngest used to go quiet when we spoke properly and light up when we made her own noises back at her.

Keep the paragraphs. Talking to her is talking to her. The comprehension questions can wait a few years.

Both are good for her, the copying back and the full sentences. Take turns. In a few weeks you'll see her wait for her turn, and that part is lovely to watch.

Ha, we did the same with our son. Now he is 11 and gives one-word answers. Enjoy this time.

Fathers talk to babies more than they admit. I gave my son full cricket commentary at that age. He is 15 and still watches only cricket.
