0on IB grade 3 to State Board class 4 at Dazzling High School. How do kids handle the first real exams?
I'd gently separate two things here. Getting used to exams gradually over years is not quite the same as moving at 8 into a system where marks count from the first term. With my son, the exams themselves were manageable. Comparing marks with classmates was what upset him. That may be worth preparing her for too.
2on Thirty-five years in medicine, and my granddaughter's body parts worksheet came back 7 out of 10
My daughter is also 9, and we had the same thing in EVS last term. 'Herbivore' was marked down because the book uses 'plant-eating animal'. When I asked, the teacher said they mark to the words taught in class so that the children learn those first. I am not sure I agree, but at least it was explained.
0on IB till grade 10, then the Diploma or an intermediate college? Our 14 year old hasn't a clue yet
This matches what I've seen, though I'm going on two families I know rather than our own (we are CBSE). Can I ask, in your son's class, are there students who chose the DP and later regretted not having the entrance option? I'm curious whether that regret is common or mostly something relatives predict.
0on Older one wants her door closed, the toddler wants to be in there all the time
With my son, the closed door turned out to be less about his sister and more about having somewhere he wasn't being watched. We agreed on knock-and-wait for everyone in the house, adults included. It applied to us first, and I think that's why he accepted it for his sister. On talking, I found he would tell me things when we were doing something else together. Not at the dinner table, and never when I asked directly.
We are not at Vijetha Vidyalaya, so I can't tell you their process. When my daughter started on a school bus, these were the questions that turned out to matter: whether an attendant travels on the bus and stays with the young children, whether the child is handed only to a listed adult, what happens if nobody is at the stop, and how delays are communicated. I would ask exactly these at the visit, and ask to speak to the person in charge of transport rather than the admissions desk.
1on Tuition worksheets plus school homework, every evening, at 7
Before talking to either, I would note down for one week how long each piece of work takes and which adult set it. When I did this for my younger one it turned out the school homework was about twenty-five minutes and the rest was tuition. I had assumed it was the other way round. Having the actual figures made it a much calmer conversation with the tuition teacher.
6on The school dental check says my son needs to brush better. I'm a dentist
Did the camp tell you how they assessed it? I ask because my daughter's note last year said the same thing, and when I asked, it turned out they had checked everyone at the end of the day, after lunch and snack. I'm not saying your son is innocent. From your description he clearly isn't.
0on Our class 2 son holds it all day rather than use the school toilet
Before guessing at reasons, it might help to find out how toilet breaks work in his class. In my daughter's school they went in pairs at fixed times, and a few children simply didn't want to go with the partner they'd been given. I'm not saying that's his reason, only that for us the rule itself turned out to be the problem.
1on St. Christophers Convent is five minutes from us. What are the hours for UKG and class 2?
I don't know their timings. On siblings, I would ask the office directly whether they consider two siblings together for different classes, and what happens if a seat is available in only one of them. Schools handle this differently, and the answer may decide whether you apply at all.
1on My parents do three days a week with our 2.5 year old and it's wearing them out
We have no family in the city and have only ever had paid care, so the feelings side is outside my experience. The part that stands out to me is 'they always say they're fine'. That's the real obstacle. Instead of asking whether they are tired, it may go better to propose something concrete, for example 'we're trying playschool on Mondays for a month', and watch how they react.
If you go, ask her for the full fixture list, not just the first match. When my son played an inter-school tournament last year, his team's second game was pushed back by two hours, and the parents who had planned for a morning were there till three. Carry water and something to eat; a canteen may not be open to visitors.
0on Caught my daughter practising my signature. She says it's to save me signing her diary
I would watch whether it stays a convenience. With my son it began exactly like this in class 6, and by class 8 the diary note about a missed assignment had been signed on my behalf as well. Not a crisis, but I wish I had asked to see the whole diary on Sundays instead of only signing the page I was handed.
2on Grade 6 IB maths looks far behind what her CBSE cousins are doing. Do we add something?
I would want to know which kind of 'behind' it is. Is she unable to do a procedure she has been taught, or has she simply not been taught it yet? The first is a concern. The second is a sequencing difference between programmes. If the worry is an entrance test, a short, targeted course a few months before would address it more directly than ongoing tuition now.
3on 7 yr old gets clingy every night before i travel
We tried telling our daughter on the morning itself when she was around that age. It made the evening calmer but the morning much worse, and she found out from the suitcase rather than from me. We went back to telling her a couple of days before, with a calendar on the fridge and the days crossed off. The clinginess didn't go away, but it moved from bedtime to a few minutes at the door.
4on Is nursery a half day at Siva Sindu High School in Vanasthalipuram?
I don't have a child there, so I can't give you the actual timings. A friend who lives in Vanasthalipuram says most neighbourhood schools on that side run nursery till around noon, but that is her general impression, not this school specifically. If after-hours care matters most, I would ask them directly whether any children stay back and who supervises them. That question usually gets a clearer answer than 'do you have daycare'.
2on Anyone from the west side looked at Nrupatunga High School in Kachiguda for nursery?
I don't have a child there, so this is second-hand. Two families in our building have children at Nrupatunga, both in the higher classes, and neither has said anything about nursery, so I can't help with that. What they do talk about is the morning traffic on the Kachiguda station side. If you are renting, I would look at the map with the school's opening time in mind rather than the distance alone. I would also ask the school directly for the nursery section strength; parents' estimates tend to be unreliable.
0on Small paddling tub on the balcony for a 1 year old in this heat. Good idea or a worry?
We did this with the second one, in a plastic tub rather than an inflatable, because the inflatable sides folded when she leant on them. A towel underneath stopped it sliding on the tiles. Empty it straight after, every time. A tub left full on the balcony becomes a mosquito problem within two days.
4on Where do the little ones stand for assembly at Chanakya Olympiad School, and for how long?
I won't guess about Chanakya Olympiad itself. At my daughter's school, the official answer ('caps are allowed') and the practical one (children asked to take caps off for prayer) turned out to be different. A current class 2 parent may tell you more than the office.
0on Eight years of Bharatanatyam, arangetram talk had just started, and now she wants to stop
I have not been in exactly this position, so please take this as opinion. 'It feels like ours now' is the most important line in your post. I would want to understand what she means by it before deciding anything, because the answer to 'should she stop' may be different from the answer to 'should she stop with this teacher, at this pace'.
1on Our 15 year old wants to do nursing, and the first question at home was 'why not MBBS?'
On volunteering, from what I've heard (I haven't tried it myself), many large hospitals don't take volunteers under 18 because of consent and insurance. Smaller clinics or NGOs might. Worth asking rather than assuming either way.
