Thirty-five years in medicine, and my granddaughter's body parts worksheet came back 7 out of 10

My granddaughter is 9. I helped with her science worksheet on the human body this week, since her parents were both working late. It came back 7 out of 10. Oesophagus was wrong; the answer is 'food pipe'. Trachea was wrong; 'windpipe'. Alveoli got a question mark. I have practised medicine for thirty-five years. She has asked me not to help next time.

The answer key always wins in primary haha. My son lost a mark for 'evaporation' because the book says 'water goes up as vapour'. You can still be her favourite helper, maybe just not for science.

I understand the key. What I don't understand is a question mark on a correct word. Either it's wrong or it isn't.

      Replying to @moss_pigeon_2505

Speaking as a primary teacher, the question mark usually means 'where did this come from?' When an answer is well beyond the chapter, some of us wonder whether an adult wrote it, and a question mark is the polite way of asking. I would probably have given the mark and added a note. A line in her diary saying you helped would clear it up.

My daughter is also 9, and we had the same thing in EVS last term. 'Herbivore' was marked down because the book uses 'plant-eating animal'. When I asked, the teacher said they mark to the words taught in class so that the children learn those first. I am not sure I agree, but at least it was explained.

This made my evening. Please keep helping her, the question mark on alveoli is going to be a family story for years ❤️
