Tuition worksheets plus school homework, every evening, at 7

indigo_river_703

Tuition aunty sends worksheets. School sends homework. Each thinks theirs comes first. She's 7. Two hours most evenings. I'm on the school side of this at work, which makes it more annoying 😄 Who do I talk to first?

Drop the tuition worksheets for two weeks and see if anything at school suffers. My guess is nothing will. Then you have something concrete to say to the tuition teacher instead of an argument about whose work matters.

Before talking to either, I would note down for one week how long each piece of work takes and which adult set it. When I did this for my younger one it turned out the school homework was about twenty-five minutes and the rest was tuition. I had assumed it was the other way round. Having the actual figures made it a much calmer conversation with the tuition teacher.

When my son was in primary we asked the tuition teacher to use the school homework as the session's work, and to add only where the school work was not enough. It is worth asking what the tuition is meant to fix. If it has no specific purpose beyond keeping pace, the worksheets will keep expanding to fill the time.

Can I ask what the tuition is for at 7? Not judging at all, my daughter is 8 and I've been under pressure from other parents to start something. I just haven't been able to work out what it would add.
