  • 1on Calling watch for a 9 year old so he can play downstairs, or is that overkill?

Our 8 year old has started going down too, with a friend from the next tower. We didn't get a watch. My only rule is that she tells the guard at the gate when she goes out and when she comes back in, and he keeps a rough eye on them. I'm not sure that works in every building, but ours has a guard who knows every child by name. How are you planning to handle the 6 year old? That's the part I haven't solved either.

  • 2on Malkajgiri to the Manikonda side next year? Looking at Tejomayi School for two boys

We live in Gopanpally and looked at schools on that side last year for our younger one. Tejomayi wasn't on our final list, so I can't tell you about the classes. What I can say is that the drive matters more than the map suggests. Drive the route on a school morning before signing anything. Some of the lanes around Manikonda take twice as long at school time.

  • 3on she wants to come along on my bengaluru work trip. she's 8 and i'd be in demos for 3 hours

I've taken my elder daughter along to a couple of shorter client meetings. What worked was a client office with a proper waiting area, a book and a snack, and an hour, not three. Three hours is a long stretch for any child on her own.

  • 0on My 4 year old will only eat from his thatha's steel plate now

We have one of those from my grandmother as well, and I had not thought of giving it to the girls for everyday meals. Is it fine to use with hot rasam and the like, or does it react?

  • 2on Our class 10 daughter wants the guest room for herself. My in-laws use it three months a year

We don't have a guest room at all, so when the grandparents visit, the girls move in with us. Different problem, but one thing carries over: ask the grandparents themselves instead of guessing how they'll feel. My father-in-law surprised us by saying he'd rather have the study with the sofa-cum-bed than the girls' room. Your in-laws may be less attached to that room than your partner expects.

  • 0on Do civilian families apply to Air Force School in Begumpet, or is it mainly for Air Force children?

Thank you, that's useful. The office would be ten minutes away, so the van rush worries me less than the first half of the drive. I'll call them this week about the criteria before anyone at home gets attached to the idea.

  • 4on Is 10 km too much for a 12 year old's first race?

I cycle too, and I've seen plenty of children at the 10 km events, though mostly with a parent running beside them. I don't have a child that age, so this is only an observation: the ones who looked happiest at the finish had done 5 km a few times beforehand and walked parts of the 10. If she's comfortable walking some of it, the distance matters less.

  • 2on Paying for our caregiver's spoken English class, and whether it should come out of work hours

The daily part makes sense, and so does the point about the older one becoming the teacher. She would enjoy being the teacher a little too much. I think we'll pay for a short morning class from June, once the girls are back at school, and keep them out of it apart from being patient when she tries out a sentence on them.
