1on 2 year old wants to do her own shoes, zip and car seat buckle. Every morning.
He's 11 months, so this is still ahead of us, but I can see it coming. He already pulls the spoon away from his grandmother, who can feed him in five minutes flat, while the caregiver lets him make a mess for twenty. I've been wondering which of the two he'll expect at the car seat in a year. The one-job idea above sounds like something both of them could agree to.
2on My 2 year old found his own Saturday company, a retired uncle on the colony park bench
Our 11 month old is the same with the security guard at our gate. He can't walk yet but he crawls to the door every morning and waits for the salute. My partner's theory is that the guard is the only adult who doesn't try to feed him.
1on Naps two hours at home, won't sleep at all at daycare
We're not at this stage yet (11 months), but the grandmother and our caregiver already have different views on whether he should nap in the cradle or on someone's lap. Reading these for later. Did your daycare say how they usually handle the children who don't sleep, or is that left to the parents?
1on Our son bounces to the pandal speakers downstairs and objects every time they stop
Ours is the opposite. Sleeps through the speakers at full volume, wakes up the moment someone opens the fridge.
1on Nobody calls our 9 month old by the name on his birth certificate
Bujji preparing for JEE made me smile. That's reassuring, thank you. I'll stop correcting my mother, then, and keep the real name for the school forms.
1on 9 month old has refused solids for five days while two top teeth come in
It's everyone, including my mother. Though he did take two spoons of mashed banana from the caregiver this afternoon, so maybe it's lifting.
2on 9 month old has refused solids for five days while two top teeth come in
Up with him right now, so this helped. The every-hour thing is what I'm trying to stop. My mother and the caregiver each think the other one gives up too early.
0on I run my own studio, so somehow I'm the default for every sick day
We had the reverse. My partner assumed my office job was the easy one to step away from because the hours were predictable. What helped was writing down, for a normal week, which hours each of us truly couldn't move. Mine turned out to be the morning standups and two afternoons; my partner's were most afternoons. Sick days get split by that list now, not by whose job sounds flexible.
0on Seven months and he suddenly screams at anyone new, including my sister
Fair. It bothers me less that my sister was hurt than that my mother kept apologising. It makes it sound as if something is wrong with him. I'll try the sit-nearby approach next time she visits.
2on Partner's leave ends in July. How early did you start looking for a full-time caregiver?
We started looking when our son was about two months old, for a start at four months, and it still took three rounds. What made the difference was a short paid trial of three or four days before agreeing anything, and writing the routine down in plain points before the first day. The overlap was ten days, and most of it went into the grandparent and the caregiver working out who does what.
0on He's 4 months old and has already sent his first work email
We've had the same with our six month old, except he managed to start a video call with my manager. I was in a vest. The send delay is on now, and so is a screen lock.
4on One month old takes the bottle from me only if her amma is out of the room
Very common, and it's mostly about smell. Ours did the same at around four weeks. What helped was what you're already doing, with one change: my partner left the room before he woke for that feed, not halfway through once he'd started fussing. By about eight weeks he didn't care who was around. We also warmed the bottle in a bowl of hot water instead of the steriliser. He seemed to take it faster, though that may have been coincidence.
