What goes on a 'call me if' list for our 7 month old's grandmother and caregiver?

cedar_pigeon_7422

My mother and our caregiver share the days with our son, and I do the handover before my commute. Last week he had a mild cold. My mother called me four times at work, while the caregiver, on her day, did not call once when he skipped a feed. Neither was wrong exactly. They just have different ideas of what is worth a call. I want one short list on the fridge that both follow. So far: fever above whatever number our paediatrician gives us, a fall from any height, two missed feeds in a row, and anything that worries them even if it isn't on the list. What else did you put on yours, and how did you get the older generation to accept a written list?

That's a sensible start. We added 'unusually sleepy or hard to wake' and 'a rash', because those were the two our paediatrician mentioned when we asked. Also put the paediatrician's number and the nearest hospital on the same sheet, so nobody has to reach you first if it's urgent. With my mother, calling it a list for the caregiver helped. She ended up following it more closely than anyone ❤️

Speaking as a paediatrician, what I see go wrong most often isn't the list, it's that nobody knows who decides. Write next to each item whether they call you or call the doctor directly. And let your own doctor set the fever number, not the internet and not me 🙂

As one of the older generation: a written list does not offend us. Being phoned four times to check whether we have phoned is what offends us. My daughter gave me a similar sheet when our grandson was small. I kept it in my wallet long after he stopped needing it.
