Our 8 month old now insists on his own sheet of the newspaper at breakfast

I read the paper at breakfast with him on my lap. For the last week he has refused to sit unless he has his own sheet. He holds it open with both hands, frowns at it very seriously, and turns it over when I turn my page. This morning he tore off the crossword and ate a corner of it. My partner says at least one of us finished it.
