My 8 year old wants to draw like me. Art class, or just sketch together on weekends?

Rough book first, then a neat copy in the fair notebook. Is every class 4 doing this?

0on Can a class 4 child with no Telugu cope at Bhashyam High School, Habsiguda?
I can't speak about Bhashyam specifically, so this is general. For a child joining in class 4 without any Telugu, I'd want to know how the school handles the gap in the first year: whether there's any bridging or if he's simply expected to catch up. The tradeoff is that state board might mean more Telugu across subjects than a CBSE school, but I'm not certain that's true here. Worth asking at the visit rather than assuming either way.
1on 9 year old wants the competitive swim group. Coach says not yet
Did he keep going through the exams, or take a break and go back? That's the part I'd want to plan before she moves up anywhere.
2on My 14 year old cooks Sunday dinner now. Cleaning up is apparently my job
Both points are fair. The tradeoff as I see it: push early and you risk losing Sunday dinner; wait too long and "the cook doesn't clean" becomes the house rule. My son is only 8, so I'm going by my brother at that age, not my own experience. One cleaning job he owns from now, and a review in a month, seems a reasonable middle.
0on Our class 4 son writes three-word answers and his teacher wants full sentences
That's reassuring and slightly worrying in equal measure. I can't arrange the teacher, so I'll try the home version for a few weeks and see where it goes.
1on My maternity leave will cover most of the next appraisal cycle. How did your company rate you?
I've had four people on my teams go on maternity leave, across a couple of companies. What worked best was writing down, before the leave started, what the person had delivered that year and what the calibration should consider. Calibration happens months later and memories are short. I'd raise it when you tell your manager, not later. Not as a demand, just 'how will my rating work this cycle'. If they don't know, it gives them time to find out from HR.
1on My 8 year old wants to draw like me. Art class, or just sketch together on weekends?
That's probably the honest answer. I didn't love the class we saw, so I'll look for another one. If there's somewhere that teaches observation, drawing from real things, I'd happily drive further for it.
0on EuroSchool Kukatpally from class 2: what do working parents do after the last bell?
The handover point is the important one. Our son comes home by school transport and the after-school care is a separate arrangement, and the gap between the two took us a month to sort out. The bus dropped him at 3.40 and the carer turned up at 4 'because school ends at 4'. Write down the real times for everyone involved, not the official ones.
1on New van route, and our class 4 daughter is now the first pickup at 6.35
Ask, but ask for something specific. 'Can she be moved' gets a no. 'Can the route run in the other direction on alternate months' or 'is there a second van on our side' at least starts a conversation. Ours did switch direction one year after enough parents asked. Not the year after.
1on A real microscope for a 7 year old, not the plastic kind. Where around Banjara Hills?
Before buying one, a clip-on microscope lens for a phone might be enough at seven. It costs very little, and she can photograph what she finds and draw it afterwards. The downside is obvious: you hand over your phone every time she wants to look at a leaf.
1on At every check-up the paediatrician explains things to my mother, not to me
Going alone works but it has a cost: your mother may feel pushed out, and she's the one with him during the day. We alternated for a while, one visit with my mother-in-law, one just us. It kept everyone in the loop without anyone feeling replaced.
6on Son draws in the margins of every school notebook. Do I stop him?
A notebook just for drawings is a good compromise. He'd probably like having one that is officially his. Will try it before school starts and see if he sticks to it.
1on does anyone's company pay for extra childcare when you travel for work
I manage people who travel, so this is from the approving end. I've approved travel for people on my team for years and never seen childcare in a policy. What I have seen work is someone putting the care cost in writing next to the trip cost and asking whether the trip could be shorter or done remotely. It turns a benefit request into a planning question. It doesn't get you the money, but it got one colleague from three trips a quarter down to one.
