Every relative says he should finish the class 10 syllabus before school reopens. Who actually does that?

Son goes into class 10 in June. Since his cousins' results came out, every family call ends with the same line: finish the syllabus in the holidays, then revise all year. One aunt says her son did maths and science twice over by June. My son has done some reading and a lot of cricket. I'm not interested in panic. I want facts. If your child did class 10, how much did they cover before June? Did it help, or did they just get bored in class?

Nowhere near class 10 here, so no facts from me. But the 'did it twice by June' boy is always somebody's son or nephew. Never someone you can ask directly.

My elder one only goes into class 7, so I can't tell you what works. What I'd worry about more is him walking into June already tired. A summer of cricket and some reading is not a wasted summer.

Teacher here, CBSE. The students who 'finished' in summer usually did it from guides, not the textbook, and then switch off in class because they think they know it. Reading the science textbook once and a few maths chapters is plenty. We start from chapter one in June anyway.

Ours goes into class 9 this June, so I'm already getting a preview of these calls. Our pinni's line is 'by Sankranti everything should be over'. Following for the real answers 🙂

my son did nothing the summer before class 10. not a page. he did fine, though i spent all of june sure he wouldn't. i don't think the summer was what decided it

My akka says the same about her son. Nothing in summer and good marks. But she also says he cried every night in December 🙂 so maybe a little reading in May would have saved December?

      Replying to @cobalt_paper_8442

That's the version I'd believe. A little in May, not 'the full syllabus'. Nobody has yet told me what 'finish' means.

My partner teaches senior classes. According to them, the students who arrive having 'finished' everything over the summer are the hardest to keep listening. A bit of reading and a rested child is what the staff room seems to prefer.
