Last Diwali she hid from the crackers. This year the in-laws are planning a big terrace night

Last year she cried and wouldn't come out of the bedroom. This year my in-laws are planning a full cracker evening on the terrace with all the cousins and they're very excited about it She's already asking if there will be 'big booms'. I don't want to hide her in a room all evening and I don't want to force her up there either. Anything that helped your little ones

Ask whether the loud ones can be lit in one fixed stretch, say twenty minutes after dinner. If she knows when they're coming and has somewhere to go during that stretch, the rest of the evening with sparklers and flowerpots may be fine.

Ours was exactly like this at 4. We sat one floor below the terrace with a pair of ear muffs and she watched the sparklers from the stairwell door. By the end of the night she was asking to hold one. No pressure, just a way in.

Our 7 year old still hates the bombs but loves flowerpots, so we made her the official flowerpot inspector. She points, I light 🙂 At 4 it might just be about letting her choose what she watches.

We skip the big night and do a small one at home the evening after. Relatives grumble 🤷 Kid is happy.
