set this up in the summer. 30 min of reading = 30 min of screen. seemed fair the 10 year old reads anyway so she has now banked something like 6 hours. the 12 year old hates reading, earns nothing, and says the whole system is rigged for her sister. she's not entirely wrong change the rule for one of them or scrap it
We had separate currencies. Each one earned screen time doing the thing she avoided, not the thing she liked. Worked till about 14. After that nothing worked 🤷
My 7 year old would have banked a year by now. We tried something similar and she started picking thinner books to get through the count faster, which defeated the whole point. So we stopped linking reading to anything. Reading is just reading at home now, and screen time has its own fixed slot.
Did she go back to longer books once the counting stopped, or did that take a while?
