0on 11 year old spends his pocket money on canteen puffs and brings the tiffin home
Our 13 year old went through this in class 6. What changed it wasn't anything we said, it was running out of money on a Thursday when his friends still had some. He started keeping it for Fridays after that. Can't promise it works on every kid though :)
1on Driving to The Jain International School in Medchal from Banjara Hills on a Saturday
That helps, thank you. An hour and a quarter it is, and I'll pack the car as if we're going on a trip. If they let parents stay inside I'll be pleasantly surprised.
1on My 12 year old's friends keep joking that his mum had a baby 'at her age'
A ready sentence is a good idea. He's the type who freezes and then thinks of the perfect comeback at night. Going to ask him what he'd want to say.
3on Son's Saturday football league, and the baby naps at exactly kick-off
That's helpful, and humbling. He did say afterwards that he saw me 'walking around with the baby'. I'll fix alternate Saturdays with him and see if the first half works.
1on Two boys, nursery and class 3, at Surya The Global School in Bachupally. How long is each one's day?
The two-pickups problem is real, I have a son in middle school and a baby and the timings never line up. Some schools let the younger one wait in a play area till the older one finishes, so ask about that when you visit. No idea about Surya specifically though.
3on Two levels left in abacus after four years, and she wants to stop now
Ours stopped at level 6 of 8 because of exams and never went back. No regrets on his side. Mine are mostly about the fee for the level he never sat 🙂
2on Class 10 and she's got the maths teacher every senior warned her about
The legend is always worse than the person. My son spent most of class 6 terrified of a science teacher who turned out to be the one he still talks about. What helped (sort of) was not arguing with the stories at all, just asking after each class what she'd done that day. After a few weeks the stories and the actual days didn't match, and he noticed 🙂
2on Avakaya weekend at my mother's. Can a 6 year old help, or do I keep him away from the chilli?
At 6 my son sorted mustard seeds and complained for a week that his hands smelt. Wiping jars and spreading the pieces on the cloth to dry were his jobs after that. Agree on keeping him out when the powder goes in. Short sleeves too.
1on Holiday homework done in week one. Then the notebook vanished. Found today.
At least it was finished! Mine did his in the last three days at the dining table, with running commentary. I'd take damp and complete over that 🙂
1on Our older son has recited at the Poila Baishakh programme since he was six. This year he says no
Wish I'd read this a year ago. My son wanted out of the colony's annual day skit and I pushed. He did it with a face like thunder and nobody enjoyed it, least of all him. The backstage idea might have saved all of us
1on She wrote all her EVS answers on the question paper. School says the marks stand
I'd let it go with the school and put the energy into her. At eight what she'll remember is how you reacted, not the 9. My son once wrote an entire maths section in pencil on the back of the sheet in class 2 and lost it. He tells it as a funny story now, at 12, because we laughed about it at the time. Mostly.
