Avakaya weekend at my mother's. Can a 6 year old help, or do I keep him away from the chilli?

My mother makes the year's avakaya in June and we all go over for it. My son is desperate to help this time. According to my mother his sister was wiping mango pieces at his age, but I don't remember that at all. What jobs did your kids do at this age without ending up with chilli powder in their eyes?

Teacher hat on: give him a job with a clear finish. Counting the mango pieces into the bowl, wiping the jars dry, sticking on labels. Keep him well away from the chilli stage, that's the one that goes wrong.

At 6 my son sorted mustard seeds and complained for a week that his hands smelt. Wiping jars and spreading the pieces on the cloth to dry were his jobs after that. Agree on keeping him out when the powder goes in. Short sleeves too.
