His science model was clearly made by him. Most of the others clearly weren't.

1on School library lets him pick one book a week. He's borrowed the same space book five times
Rereading a favourite at 6 is completely normal, and a nonfiction book about planets usually has harder vocabulary than the levelled readers anyway ❤️ I teach much older students, so take this lightly, but one thing that works at most levels is asking whether he can borrow two: the planets book plus one he chooses from a small set the librarian picks. He keeps the comfort book and still tries something new. Worth asking the teacher if that's possible.
6on Vignan Model High School is a ten-minute walk. Pickup once we are both working is the problem
My partner is on a break right now too, and we're working through the same thing for next year. What we've decided so far: whoever we find for after school starts at least a month before the break ends, so the handover isn't in the same week as the first day back at work. Still haven't found that person though ❤️
3on I do my nephew's pickup and homework but the school only messages his parents
A signed letter from both parents naming you, with your phone number and a copy of your ID, is what I've usually seen work. Ask the class teacher separately too. The office contact list and what the class teacher uses for quick messages are often not the same thing. It's a small fix once someone does it ❤️
0on My 16 year old has decided she's making the Diwali snacks this year, and Ba is not pleased
Could Ba teach her one thing, the one she's proudest of, and your daughter does the new ones? Then it's handing something down, not taking over ❤️
3on Rostered on the Saturday of her class 2 PTM. Is it odd to send her grandfather?
Not odd at all. I teach the senior classes, and even there a grandparent sometimes comes in place of the parents. Nobody minds. What helps is sending him with three written questions so it doesn't stop at "doing fine". Reading, maths, how she is with friends, or whatever you're really wondering about. Then ask the teacher if you can have a short call the following week. Most of us would say yes ❤
3on Does ATRI Public School in Hydernagar have a shorter nursery day?
I don't know ATRI, so I can't help with the timings. One small worry though: unless you live close by, Hydernagar can be a long ride for a 3 year old every morning. Maybe check the bus time before you check the timetable. Nursery timings also change from year to year in many schools, so it's worth asking for next year's, not this year's.
2on Covered her ears through the whole Independence Day programme at preschool. Ear muffs at three?
Only seeing this now. From the school side: we have had a few children wear ear defenders for assemblies and rehearsals, and what usually helps most is letting the child sit at the end of a row near a door, so she knows she can step out. That is worth asking her teacher for, along with permission for the muffs. If you do buy them, let her cover them in stickers. A child is far more willing to wear something she thinks of as hers ❤️
6on Class 6 entrance tests: what do they test, and when do they happen?
Thank you, this is really useful. One class below is reassuring, he's comfortable there. November to February means we have time to visit properly first ❤️
2on Her IB kindergarten doesn't do formal reading. Her cousins her age are reading full sentences
I teach at the other end of IB, but I see the results of both kinds of start. Children who were read to a lot and enjoyed it tend to catch up quickly once formal reading begins. The ones pushed early sometimes read well and dislike it. If she enjoys sounding out words, a few minutes of play at home won't hurt. I wouldn't turn it into a lesson.
1on Class 2 sum marked wrong because he added the tens first
What would worry me is him deciding his own way of thinking is 'wrong'. I teach older kids, and children who can split numbers like that are the ones who cope later. I'd tell him at home that his way is a real method and the column way is the one the class is practising this week. Both can be true.
3on staff meeting moved to wednesdays till 5.15 and i'm the one who does pickup
I teach DP too and had this exact clash when my son was in class 2. What I did: left at 3.20 on meeting days for one term and read the minutes the next morning. My coordinator agreed because I asked before the first meeting, not after the third. After that term we found a neighbour's helper who walked both kids home. The guilt about skipping goes faster than you'd think.
