I do my nephew's pickup and homework but the school only messages his parents

sage_drum_2205

My nephew is 12 and by agreement with his parents I handle his school days: pickup, homework, the daily diary. But the school app, circulars and class teacher messages all go to his parents' numbers, and they forward things when they remember. Last week a science project deadline was moved up and I only found out when he came home with a remark in his diary. Not a big deal in itself, but it will happen again. Has anyone got a school to officially add a guardian as a contact? What did they ask for: a letter from the parents, ID, something else?

A signed letter from both parents naming you, with your phone number and a copy of your ID, is what I've usually seen work. Ask the class teacher separately too. The office contact list and what the class teacher uses for quick messages are often not the same thing. It's a small fix once someone does it ❤️

Have the parents written to the school, or have they said they will? That is where it stalls in most families I know. Get them to send it while you are standing next to them.

My mother-in-law picks up my son in the weeks I am on night duty. The school gave her a pickup card after we sent a letter. The messages still come only to me, so I forward everything in the morning when I come off shift. Not perfect, but she has not missed anything so far.

at 12 he can carry some of it too. my daughter is 11, she writes every deadline on the back page of her diary and we look at it sunday night. doesn't replace the school adding you but it catches most things
