What worked was a standard line she could pass on: show your own teacher first, then my dad will see it if you still want. Puts the gate with the kids, not with you 🤷

Not on call myself but my partner is a physician and did years of night calls when our daughter was small. What we did: whoever was on call slept in the other room that week with the phone on loud. The other one took the night wakings. Not perfect. The baby slept though.

My partner, who's a physician, told everyone who would listen: bring the baby up to you, don't bend down to the baby. Lots of cushions. Easier said than done at 3 am.
