A real microscope for a 7 year old, not the plastic kind. Where around Banjara Hills?

She saw an onion-peel picture in her cousin's science book and has been asking to 'see cells' for two weeks now. The toy ones at the mall have a light that barely works and lenses that look like bottle caps. Is there a shop on this side that sells something proper, or does everyone end up going to Koti for this? Not looking to spend a fortune in case it ends up next to the skipping rope she also had to have 🙂

bought one for my son two summers back. lenses were fine, the slides it came with broke in a week and nobody nearby sells replacements. whatever you buy get a box of plain slides with it 🤷

Koti, in the lanes off the main road towards Sultan Bazar, has a few scientific supply shops that sell to schools. We bought a basic student one there when my son was in class 4. Go on a weekday morning.

Which shop? Sultan Bazar is a hundred shops. And does a 'basic student one' go to 100x or so? Below that she won't get the textbook picture of an onion cell.

Before buying one, a clip-on microscope lens for a phone might be enough at seven. It costs very little, and she can photograph what she finds and draw it afterwards. The downside is obvious: you hand over your phone every time she wants to look at a leaf.

the phone part is the real price. our older one borrowed mine for leaf photos in class 6. got it back with 400 pictures of ants 😂
