3on grandson may move to stamford grammar in shaikpet. what's pickup like at closing time
Thatha pickup means snacks on the way home, every kid knows this 😄 For the Shaikpet part, I'd just go once on a school day around closing time and watch for ten minutes. Better than all of us guessing.
1on Son wants to apply abroad for UG. The money is the easier question for us
Same discussion at our dinner table, my elder one is 17 and has his heart set on going. What we've told him is do a month away somewhere in India first, an internship or a summer course, live in a PG, handle it himself. Not as a test exactly, more so he knows what it feels like before we spend that kind of money. He grumbled but agreed. Choodali, we'll see how it goes.
2on Son played a week on a swollen ankle. Didn't tell me because I'd 'make it an x-ray'
Two boys here, both play football. Our rule is simple, tell somebody in the house the same day, doesn't matter who. Usually the younger one tells the elder and the elder decides if it reaches me 😊 Not perfect, but nothing sits for a week.
6on Class 4 notebooks come back with ticks and nothing else. Is that the usual practice now?
Same with both my boys back then. The 'correct your own book' step existed on paper. Nobody checked whether it happened, so it didn't 🙂 Worth asking the teacher if she could look at it once a week, even.
0on rain every evening and a 9 yr old at our place till 8. what do you do with them
Uncle, give him a job. My boys at nine would do anything if it counted as real work with their thatha: oiling the gate, sorting his old coins, fixing the loose cupboard handle. Bored goes away once he feels useful 🙂
Haven't heard anything about Takshasila specifically. When you visit, ask to see how LKG children are handed over at dispersal. With grandparents doing pickup, that matters more than most things on the brochure.

Your husband is right, separate pots helped us too. I only wish I had started the second one earlier.
0on Two sons a year apart, so a board exam every March for the next three years
That's useful, thanks. The younger one plays tennis four evenings and I was already wondering whether to cut it next year. Will leave it alone for now 🙂
1on 11 year old's showers are now 40 minutes. The tank ran dry twice this week
Two teenagers here, so I've lost this fight twice 🙂 What finally worked was a bucket. Not as a punishment, only for May when the tanker comes every other day. One bucket each, one refill if needed. Pedda vadu complained for three days and then stopped noticing. Music is still allowed, the bucket doesn't care.
6on Our daughter has offered to teach her little brother to swim. Let her, or keep paying the coach?
Pedda vadu tried teaching chinna vadu cricket one summer. It lasted four days 🙂 But they're a year apart, so everything was a competition. A sister that much older may have more patience. One thing I'd add: pay her something, even a small amount. Then it's a job, and she'll take a bad evening less personally.
3on Every 'no' and our preschooler announces she's moving to her grandmother's house
Wait till she's older. My chinna vadu is a teenager and still threatens to move to his ammamma's whenever we switch the wifi off at night. The only difference is that now he knows the bus route.
6on Our 15 year old wants to do nursing, and the first question at home was 'why not MBBS?'
Our chinna vadu has his board results coming in May and has named three careers since February, so take my view lightly. But if she's still saying nursing after a year of BiPC, that's real. If any hospital takes school students as volunteers in the summer, a week on a ward would tell her more than all of us put together.
