grandson is 10. his parents are looking at stamford grammar high school in shaikpet for class 6 next year. their decision, not mine. but i'll be doing most of the pickups. we're in nanakramguda. what is it like outside the school at closing time, where do people wait, how bad is the road. also right now both his parents call me separately around 4 to ask if he's home. if anyone has solved that, i'm listening

I haven't been to the school, so I can't tell you about the gate itself. I drive through Shaikpet on clinic days and the afternoons there are rarely quick, so allow more time than the map says. I would also ask the school whether there is a place inside where people waiting for pickup can stand, especially once the afternoons get hot again.

Thatha pickup means snacks on the way home, every kid knows this 😄 For the Shaikpet part, I'd just go once on a school day around closing time and watch for ten minutes. Better than all of us guessing.

the real question is whether a class 6 boy will still be happy being picked up by his grandfather at the gate. some are, some suddenly want to walk out alone with friends. worth asking him before you plan the route

I'd agree with going to look on a school day. Go on a weekday that isn't the first or last day before a holiday, because those are unusual. Note where cars stop, whether there's a separate exit for younger and older classes, and how long it takes to get out back onto the main road. It answers most of your question in one visit.

On the two calls at 4: we had the same thing with our caregiver until we made one small group with everyone who needs to know. She sends one message when the girls are home and nobody calls. It took me a week to stop calling anyway, out of habit.

When my daughter was around that age, what lasted was one message from whoever did pickup and a call only if something was off. The separate check-in calls usually come from each parent feeling they should be the one who knows. Once they trust the message, it stops.

Seconding the single message. One line, 'home, eating', and both parents have it. It also gives you a record if anyone says later they weren't told.
