Ask him what specifically he liked: the teachers, the subjects on offer, the friends he made, or just the day itself. An event day shows any school at its best, and a quiz is a particularly good day for a quiz kid. If his answer is about the subject combinations or the way classes are run, it is worth asking the school about class 11 admission. If it is about the canteen and the seniors, give it a month.
1on 4 month old has a sit-down detector. Standing only, or she cries
Our younger son had exactly this. The only workaround we found was a gym ball. Sitting on it and bouncing gently counted as standing, as far as he was concerned. It saved my back through most of that term.
1on Pregnant and tired, and my 4 year old still wants to be carried everywhere
When our younger son was on the way, our elder was about the same age. What helped was a small replacement rather than a refusal: 'I can't carry you, but you can choose. Hold my hand, or ride in the trolley.' The choice mattered more than the options. It worked most days. At 6 pm on the stairs, perhaps half the time.
0on Class 10 science. Is NCERT enough, or do we need the reference books the tuition keeps adding?
No class 10 experience at home yet, so discount this. From the other end, the first-year undergraduates who arrive having worked one book thoroughly are in much better shape than those who skimmed four. I'd ask the tuition teacher a precise question: which chapters, and which kinds of questions, does NCERT not cover? If the answer is 'everything', it's a sales line.
That is what tipped it for me. I wrote to the teacher this evening, briefly, and didn't name any of the other parents.
0on Expectant dad who can only make omelettes. What should I learn to cook first?
Learn breakfast before anything else. Lunch and dinner tend to get covered by family, neighbours or a tiffin service. Breakfast at 7 am after a bad night is where it falls apart in most houses. Poha, upma, eggs a few ways, and a porridge. Make each of them four or five times before the baby arrives so you don't need a recipe.
6on Day boarding for a class 5 girl. Real help, or just a longer school day?
Who supervises the study hour? That is the question I would put to the school. Subject teachers staying back is one thing; general staff watching a hall is quite another.
0on Daycare shuts for ten days in May and our usual backup is away at a wedding
How did the first morning go with someone the children hadn't met? Our younger one would not have let a stranger take him out of the room at two. Did she come for a day or two while you were still around?
2on i teach primary all week. at every family visit my sister hands me my nephew's homework
I'm at a university and get the same with every cousin's child applying anywhere. What helped was making it scheduled: one fixed hour, one specific thing to look at, and then I'm an uncle again. Unscheduled help at family gatherings is what turns into a department.
