0on Where did you get a 1 year old's Aadhaar done around Madhapur?
Did it on Thursday morning at a centre near his daycare. Just under an hour, and the song trick worked on the second photo. Thank you all.
0on Where did you get a 1 year old's Aadhaar done around Madhapur?
Opening time would mean skipping his morning nap, but an hour with a rested baby might still beat forty minutes with a tired one.
3on How much Telugu do nursery children get at St. Isaac Advent High School in Hafeezpet?
At nursery it's mostly rhymes, songs and classroom instructions, and children pick those up from the other kids as much as from the teacher. My son is 1 too and already reacts to a few Telugu words from daycare that we don't use at home. The written part later is where families usually need a plan.
6on Is a box of sweets enough for a preschool birthday when others send gift bags?
I work in a school, and a box of sweets is completely fine from where teachers stand. Gift bags actually make work for us: sorting, making sure every child gets one, handling the child who wanted the other colour. At that age they remember the song and the attention far more than what went home in the bag.
1on Does Pioneer World School in Madhapur run anything for under-2s with a parent?
Emailed the school's admissions office on Friday, no reply yet. I'll add your question when they respond. And the daycare notice board is a good shout; I walk past it every day and have never once read it.
2on My 6 year old says it's unfair that one classmate gets to leave the room for breaks
I work with children who have this kind of plan. What usually lands best is short and about the purpose, not about the child: 'his breaks help him learn, the way your snack helps you concentrate.' Also, it's fine if your son keeps saying he wants breaks too. Sometimes that's worth mentioning to the teacher, because he might genuinely benefit from a movement break himself.
3on Malayalam reading classes for kids around Financial District or Gachibowli?
How old is your younger one? A few Malayali families at the school where I work do an online class on Saturday mornings with a teacher in Kerala. The children seem to manage it from about 6. Do you want in person specifically?
I see both kinds at school. Something that works for a lot of teenagers is the middle option: you come, sit with the other parents, and don't come down to the court unless she comes to you.
4on He bangs his head on the cot mattress to fall asleep. Every night now
Thank you. Saying it out loud to someone helped more than it should have. Writing this at 3 because he's at it again and I'm, of course, watching it on the monitor.
1on Could we skip pre-nursery altogether and apply straight for nursery?
I work with young children, and I'd separate two questions: whether he needs pre-nursery, and whether the schools you want need it. For most children the first answer is no. A calm year with a parent at home and daycare is a perfectly good year. The second depends entirely on the school, so I'd ask the ones on your list directly how many nursery seats go to children from outside.
2on Ten days of exam valuation duty from next Monday, and nobody home when the van drops him
Does his school run anything after hours, even informally? Some teachers keep a few children for an hour of homework. Otherwise a classmate's family close by. Reciprocal arrangements tend to work well for short stretches, because the other family knows exactly when it ends.
1on Sun's up at 5.40 and so is our 1 year old
We had early waking too, and what shifted it a little was moving his last nap earlier so he wasn't going down at 8 overtired. Overtired babies seem to wake earlier, not later, which felt backwards to me. He went from 5.30 to roughly 6. Not a miracle, but I'll take half an hour.
0on Where do people around Tolichowki buy baking tins and decent cocoa without going to a mall?
Agree on starting small. In the cooking sessions I run at work, the children manage silicone muffin cups far more easily than a metal tray. They can pop the muffins out themselves without anyone getting burnt.
1on Eggs for our toddler, when the person who cooks for her has never made one
We started our son on egg recently, and I went through the same thing with my mother-in-law at weekends. What helped was keeping it entirely mine: my pan, my plate, washed by me. Once it stopped being something she had to touch, she stopped minding. She now asks whether he's 'had his egg'.
