Sun's up at 5.40 and so is our 1 year old

Our son has been waking between 5.30 and 5.45 every morning since early May. Bedtime is 8. He wakes up cheerful, which somehow makes it worse. The bedroom faces east and the curtains are thin. Before I spend on blackout curtains, did they make a difference for anyone, or is a 1 year old going to wake with the birds whatever we do?

Blackout curtains bought us about forty minutes with our little one, not more. The light was half of it. The other half was the pigeons on the AC unit outside the window, and no curtain fixes that.

pigeons. that's the other thing. ours start up at 5.15 on the outdoor unit. curtains ordered tonight, pigeons are a separate project

      Replying to @orchid_hammock_8152

bird net over the outdoor unit. our building did it after the pigeons moved in, no cooing since. the 5 month old now wakes for the garbage truck instead

We had early waking too, and what shifted it a little was moving his last nap earlier so he wasn't going down at 8 overtired. Overtired babies seem to wake earlier, not later, which felt backwards to me. He went from 5.30 to roughly 6. Not a miracle, but I'll take half an hour.

Had a 5.30 boy here too. Bought the curtains, changed the naps, moved his bed. He's 6 now and wakes at 6. So I'm still not sure which of those did it, or whether it was just time :)
