3on Nanny stays late on my demo days. Do you pay by the extra hour or a flat amount?
Our daughter is at daycare, and the daycare simply charges a late fee per half hour after closing. It's annoying but at least it's clear to everyone. I think a nanny deserves at least that much clarity, and probably more notice than a daycare gets. Does she have to get home by a particular time for her own family?
1on A family photo by her cot at daycare: will it settle her, or make nap time worse?
I messaged the coordinator this afternoon. It's mostly when she wakes, and they say the photo tends to help the cruisers more than the little babies. Laminated copy goes in tomorrow.

Good to hear. I'll send one with her grandmother in it too, she lights up for her.
0on Grandson has stopped napping at our place but falls apart by six
What time does he wake on school days? If it is before 7, an earlier dinner and bedtime might help more than a nap would.
0on Our caregiver keeps the room pitch dark for every nap. He's 2 months old
We did daytime naps in a dim room rather than a dark one, mainly because our daughter woke at every sound in the living room. Our paediatrician's only comment at that age was to keep the night feeds dark and boring and not to worry much about the day. If nights are going reasonably, I wouldn't change what the caregiver is doing. Is she the one doing nights as well?

That is helpful, thank you. I will ask them to put in writing what 'priority' covers before paying anything.
0on My 9 year old asked why we don't pray at home. His friend's family does a puja every morning
My father did a long puja every morning and my mother did not pray at all. Nobody explained it to us; we simply grew up thinking people are different about this, which turned out to be a useful thing to grow up with. With a baby at home, I have not had to put any of this into words yet. Does your son want to join his friend's puja, or is he asking mainly why your house is different?
2on Daycare near home or near my office, now that I'll be in three days a week?
We chose near home for our daughter, mainly so either of us could collect her. On theatre days I cannot leave at all, so being close to her during the day would not have helped. Would you realistically step out to see him on an office day, or is it more the reassurance of knowing you could?
4on Homework load and textbooks for class 6 at ST. Duke's High School, Malkajgiri
Nothing first-hand on the school, I'm afraid; our daughter is still a baby. When a friend was choosing for class 6, she asked to see a current student's notebook during the office visit. She said it told her more about homework and pace than anything else. Might be worth asking.
2on Daycare wants two weeks of half days to resettle her after the break. Who does the 12.30 pickups?
Day 3 here. She cried at drop-off and was asleep on her teacher by 11. I asked about a 2.30 pickup and they've agreed from Thursday, which my partner can cover. Thanks, all.
0on Daycare wants two weeks of half days to resettle her after the break. Who does the 12.30 pickups?
That's exactly our gap. My partner's four days, and then six days that nobody has yet.
Same debate here about our daughter's daycare, near the hospital or near home. I have nothing to add about Sujana Vidyanikethan itself. One thing that helped us decide: we drove the route at the real times, twice. The map estimate was off by about twenty minutes each way, and that changed the conversation.
2on First progress report from daycare says our son is 'behind in social play'. Behind whom?
That is helpful. As a teacher, how would you want a parent to ask for examples? I would not want it to land as a complaint.
1on Is it normal for a daycare to keep crawlers in a playpen most of the day?
Ours is in a baby room with a mat area separated from the toddlers by a low gate, so the crawlers get the floor and the walkers stay out. It might be worth asking whether something like that is possible in your room. If you just ask for more floor time in general, they will agree and nothing will change. I would also ask how long a usual stretch in the playpen is. 'Most of the day' and 'while we're feeding someone' are very different answers.
1on neighbour drops her 8 yr old at ours 'for an hour' because i work from home. the hour is now three
Does it go the other way at all? If she could take both girls on the afternoons you have your heaviest calls, it becomes an arrangement rather than a favour. If she can't, that tells you something too.
3on Our daughter has started calling me by my mother's nickname for me
Still some months away from any words at all here, so I'm taking this as advance warning. My father has a name for me from school days that I'd very much rather she never hears.
