Daycare near home or near my office, now that I'll be in three days a week?

plum_badminton_5936

From August my team moves to three office days a week. Our son's daycare is ten minutes from home in Habsiguda. My office is about fifty minutes away in traffic, longer when it rains. There is a daycare in the building next to my office. If he moved there, he would be in the car with me for close to two hours on office days, but I would be five minutes away during the day. My partner works from home and could use the current one on the other two days, but I doubt we can justify paying for both. For those who have done either: does the long commute with a baby wear thin, or is being close worth it?

near office for us when she was 7 months. the drive was fine, she slept. the hard part was the days i had to stay late and she was stuck there waiting with me

That's the part I hadn't weighed. On incident days I can be at my desk well past seven. With the home daycare my partner can collect him.

We chose near home for our daughter, mainly so either of us could collect her. On theatre days I cannot leave at all, so being close to her during the day would not have helped. Would you realistically step out to see him on an office day, or is it more the reassurance of knowing you could?

two hours a day in the car is a lot of your day too. ours was near home and the one time i needed to get there fast it was pouring and i didn't make it anyway 🤷

We did near office for about a year when our son was small. It worked until he started catching every cold going round, and then the sick rules all landed on me because I was the one with the car. Also check whether the office daycare closes on your company's holidays or its own. Ours followed a different calendar.

The calendar point is a good one. Ours closed on the building's maintenance days, which nobody had mentioned when we joined.
