Rain day turned into an online class at our place. How closely do you supervise a 7 year old?

School switched to online classes this morning because of the rain. Grandson was already with us, so the laptop is on our dining table. Twenty minutes in, the camera is off and he is drawing a cricket stadium. Do I sit beside him the whole time, or let him be? His parents are both at work and I don't want to phone them for this.

What does the teacher expect about the camera? If the school asks for it on, I'd sit nearby for the first half hour and then check in. If it's optional, the drawing may be how he listens. My daughter did her best listening with a pencil going.

At 7 the drawing is rarely listening. Ask him one question about the lesson at the break. You'll know.

Sit in the same room with your own work, not beside him. Close enough to see the screen. Mine always did better with that than with someone watching every move.

Speaker on instead of headphones, so you can hear from anywhere in the house. We did this right through the online-school years with our daughter. When the teacher's voice stops and a cartoon voice starts, you know 🙂
